Information about the study

My name is Daniel White and I work as Programme Coordinator in EAP at Northumbria University. I am currently seeking volunteers to participate in a study on quality management (i.e. quality assurance/quality control) within EAP.

The study fulfils my MBA Management Investigation (i.e. dissertation) and the data will be used to inform the thesis, but may be subsequently rewritten for publication.

Research Title

An exploratory study into quality management practices in English for Academic Purposes in the UK.

Research aims

The focus of the study is to gain insight into current quality management practices within the sector including programme/module/assessment design, and identification of key challenges and opportunities in enhancing quality.

Procedure

30-minute one-to-one online meetings (on MS Teams – account not required) to answer questions during a semi-structured interview about quality practices in your institution. The interviews will take place between 2nd Aug and 20th Aug.

Eligibility criteria

Any EAP practitioners who oversee programmes/modules (e.g. Programme Coordinators/Leaders; Heads of Pre-sessional/insessional; Head of Department; Centre Directors) at UK-based institutions (public or private are both welcome)

Ethics

The study has been granted institutional (i.e. Northumbria University) ethical approval. The name of participant institutions will remain confidential, and all names will be anonymised. Meetings will be recorded and will only be used for transcription purposes – these recordings will be deleted following completion of the study as per Northumbria University’s records retention schedule (Section 10.12). On sign-up to interviews, consent forms will be provided to be completed and returned prior to or during the interview. Ethical approval documentation is available on request.
